#11- Own Your Calendar
Fill your calendar with activities important to you, before others fill it with activities important to them!
It is very easy to lose control of your calendar, your time, and consequently your productivity!
Follow this process-
“Schedule blocks of time that are important and vital for your functioning.
Do not let anyone, under any circumstances to invade the sanctity of your pre-scheduled calendar!”
Personally, I am productive for short bursts of time. And I absolutely loathe when I am handed over a non-urgent task or have a phone call scheduled during the period I am highly productive.
So this is what my pre-scheduled calendar looks like-
I pre-schedule my calendar to carry out my important and mandatory tasks before-hand, so I know I can manage my workload!
08:00 - 08:15- Read daily newsletters
09:00 - 09:15- Go over today’s to-do-list and prioritize your tasks
09:15 - 11:00- Do my priority tasks for the day
12:00 - 12:30- Check email backlog; Archive, Schedule, Reply OR delete
01:00 - 01:30- Spare time for my lunch without any distractions or meetings
03:00 - 04:00- Take time aside for thinking, reading & writing for blogs, prepare content for the week ahead
05:00 - 05:15- Review today’s tasks, prepare tomorrows to-do-list and list any incomplete tasks
05:15 - 06:00- Finish any incomplete tasks for the day, if not then enjoy the rest of the day off
Effectively in my 10-hour workday, I retain 5 hours for myself at my leisure,
And I provide a window of opportunity for others to fill the remaining 5 hours!
One needs to provide significant value to command a place on my calendar!
